In order to achieve the perfect golf swing technique it is important for you to understand the elements of standard golf swing analysis. The golf swing is fundamentally a matter of physics, understanding this is necessary in order to master the swing fundamentals.
The physics comes into the golf swing from the principle of angular momentum, in the same way that you spin a weight on the end of a string your body acts as the central pivot point with the club head being the weight that moves on the end applying a lot of force to the golf ball.
The club head weight and the speed at which you move the club head are the key factors as to how hard you will hit the ball. Good golf swing technique is based around maximising the club head speed whilst maintaining control of the direction of the golf swing and the flight path the ball takes.
If you really don't get it, no need to worry. Learning to master your golf swing technique is not a complicated issue. First you need to learn what a good golf swing feels like and practise, practise, practise until it becomes second nature. Listed below are four basic golf swing tips or at least swing thoughts for you to get started on right away.
1) The backswing – if you think golf is a sedentary game then think again, body flexibility is very important to achieving some good swing techniques. A flexible back is important to develop as the backswing involves coiling around a central pivot point and a lot of muscles are involved in this manoeuvre. An extended range of movement is important so that you can rotate correctly and fully to complete the backswing and get the club in the ‘slot’ at the top of your swing.
2) The downswing – the downswing starts with a downward movement of the arms followed by a gradual uncoiling of the body. Essentially the downswing is the reverse of the backswing and you need to practice bringing the club back to the ball at the exact same point from which it left. This is very tricky and requires a lot of practice on the driving range to perfect, even professional golfers regularly practice their golf swing technique in order to make it second nature on the course.

3) Ball impact – a square impact is essential any variation will make the ball go to the right or the left of the intended target, the common terms of hook or slice are ones that are commonly used as a result of anything other than a square impact.
4) Follow through – it is essential to achieve solid impacts that you follow through as part of your golf swing. You will never achieve consistent ball striking unless your golf swing technique includes a full follow through around your body. If you think about it hitting the ball actually happens about halfway through your golf swing. It is an obstruction on the way to finishing your swing.
Those are the four basic steps to swinging a golf club but of course there are a few more fundamentals that must be learnt as well.
How you grip the club is very important, you need to adopt a neutral grip and probably the most popular grip technique is the overlapping or Vardon grip, made famous by the late Harry Vardon winner of a record six open championships in the early years of the 20th century. In this grip the little finger of the trailing hand – the one lower down the club – is placed on top of the gap between the index and middle finger of the other hand.
It is important that you maintain a neutral grip and one hand does not rotate around the club more than the other as this will cause the club face to be unsquare at impact, leading again to uncertain striking of the ball and bad golf swing technique.
Another fundamental golf swing technique to master is that of maintaining good posture throughout the swing. To start this off you need to put your feet apart to the same distance between your shoulders, this creates a solid base. Your toes should be flared slightly outwards to enhance this. Secondly you need to bend your knees slightly not much, just enough to unlock them so that your weight is taken on the balls of your feet. Finally you need to bend from the hips no slouching, this is essential for a good pivot.
